Alan Gray’s journey in the world of Toastmasters is a story of dedication, skill, and unwavering commitment. It begins in the vibrant, bustling streets of New York City, where Toastmasters District 46 thrives, encompassing Manhattan, the Bronx, and Westchester County. Within this dynamic landscape, Gray emerged as a beacon of excellence in public speaking and leadership.

In the 2022-2023 Toastmasters year, Gray assumed several pivotal roles. As the District 46 Parliamentarian, he was the guardian of procedures and protocols, ensuring meetings ran smoothly and efficiently. His role as Vice President Education for the Goodwill Toastmasters Club saw him nurturing and guiding fellow members in their oratory journeys. But perhaps his most innovative contribution was as the District’s Yoodli Ambassador. In this role, Gray introduced and educated clubs about Yoodli, an AI-powered speech coach, marking a significant technological advancement in the art of public speaking.

Gray’s talents extended beyond just speaking and leadership roles. He was instrumental in managing content for the District’s YouTube channel and newsletter, contributing significantly to the public relations team.

His engagement with multiple clubs, including Advanced Debaters, La Voz Latina, and Virtual Parliamentarians, showcased his dedication to fostering effective communication across diverse communities.

The crowning moment of Gray’s Toastmasters journey came during the “Hail & Farewell” virtual event on August 5th. Here, amidst a gathering of esteemed peers, Gray was honored with the prestigious 2023 Toastmaster of the Year Award.

This accolade recognized his exceptional communication skills, leadership prowess, and embodiment of Toastmasters’ core values. District Director Dora Maria Abreu lauded him as a “true servant leader,” acknowledging his role in propelling District 46 into the forefront of the 21st century.

A Dynamic Leader Indeed

Beyond his roles within Toastmasters, Gray’s speech at the District-level International Speech Contest stood out. His powerful discourse on the needs of the LGBTQ+ community within Toastmasters highlighted his deep understanding of inclusivity and advocacy, resonating profoundly with the audience.

Upon receiving the award, Gray expressed his humility and gratitude. His words reflected the transformative power of effective public speaking, a testament to his journey in Toastmasters. Looking forward, he reaffirmed his commitment to the organization, promising continued involvement in the 2023-2024 year.

Gray’s story is not just confined to Toastmasters. He also leads a distinguished career as an appellate court attorney at the Supreme Court of the State of New York. His academic credentials are equally impressive, holding a bachelor’s degree from Florida Atlantic University and a law degree from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law.
