Sarah Cossette’s journey with Toastmasters, beginning in 2013, has been marked by her unwavering commitment and versatile leadership.

Over the years, she has skillfully assumed nearly every officer role, showcasing her adaptability and dedication. Her leadership acumen was particularly evident during the Toastmaster year 2020-2021, where she excelled as the Area 11 Director. Sarah’s expertise also extends to being a seasoned Club Coach and Club Mentor,

further demonstrating her passion for guiding others towards their full potential.

Currently, Sarah is serving as the Vice President of Education (VPE) for both Peekskill Toastmasters and Kidney Stories Toastmasters. Her commitment to the Toastmasters community continues as she plays an integral role on the Pathways Committee, contributing to the innovative educational paths within the organization.

Beyond Toastmasters, Sarah has had a substantial career at Dodge Construction Network (formerly The Blue Book Network), where she has been a valuable team member for nearly 14 years. Her professional achievements are a testament to her dedication and work ethic.

Outside of her professional and Toastmasters commitments, Sarah is deeply involved in volunteer work. She contributes her time and energy to her church and serves as an Area Church Relations Coordinator with Operation Christmas Child. This role reflects her altruistic spirit and her desire to make a positive impact in the world.

Sarah’s personal life is enriched by the joys of nature and family. Together with her husband Lenny and their beloved dog Bishop, she finds solace and rejuvenation in hiking the scenic trails near their home in Poughkeepsie, NY (Dutchess County). Sarah’s life story is not just a tale of professional and organizational accomplishments; it’s a narrative of leadership, community service, and the pursuit of personal fulfillment.

What Did Sarah Learn About Herself Throughout Her DTM Journey?

Sarah’s journey in Toastmasters over the last 10 years has been immensely rewarding. She initially joined the organization to enhance her public speaking skills. However, not long after joining, Sarah was presented with the opportunity to assume an officer role. This position pushed her out of her comfort zone and encouraged her to embrace more challenging responsibilities. Through her involvement in Toastmasters, Sarah gained the confidence to speak up and discover her own voice. For her, Toastmasters is not just about personal growth; it’s also about assisting and empowering other members to find their voice. Over the years, Sarah has been able to mentor several members, helping them to achieve their individual goals.

What Skills Can Sarah Take Away From Her DTM Journey That Have Enhanced Her Professional Development?

Throughout her Toastmasters journey, Sarah has acquired advanced training and knowledge in leadership, time management, coaching, and mentoring. These skills have proven to be invaluable, and she applies them daily in her workplace and in her role as a volunteer. Her tenure in various club officer roles, as an Area Director, Club Coach, and Club Mentor, has significantly contributed to her growth as a leader within her Toastmasters clubs, in District 46, and beyond. Sarah’s experience in Toastmasters has enabled her to manage teams and undertake larger projects with greater confidence.
